When we say we’ve seen it all in homes over the years, we truly mean it. But this project will always stand out because it wasn’t just a customer project. It was our own home and one of the very first renovations we completed when Salim Home Services was just getting started.
Yes… there was pink carpet in the bathroom.
While the layout, tub, and tile walls had some potential, the carpet had definitely seen better days. There was moisture, wear, and that “squishy when you walk” feeling that no homeowner wants, especially in a bathroom. It was clear that part had to go.
The wallpaper was also very bold and not quite our style, but underneath it all, we saw an opportunity to refresh the space without doing a full gut renovation.
Because we were renovating the entire interior of our farmhouse at the time, this bathroom update needed to stay budget-conscious. Our goal was simple:
• Clean and fresh
• Neutral and timeless
• Functional for everyday use
• Big visual impact without major structural changes
And that’s exactly what we achieved.
We transformed the space with a series of small to medium improvements that made a huge difference:
✔ Removed wallpaper and painted the walls
✔ Added a shower to the existing bathtub
✔ Updated the vanity area with a new faucet, mirror, and lighting
✔ Installed a new toilet
✔ Replaced the carpet with durable, timeless tile flooring
✔ Refreshed the overall space with modern farmhouse finishes
One of the biggest improvements was removing the carpet and installing tile. Not only does tile look better, but it’s also the right material for a moisture-prone space like a bathroom.
Many homeowners assume they need a full demolition to get a bathroom they love. In reality, thoughtful updates can completely change how a space feels without the cost of a full remodel.

We still love walking into this room today and remembering what it looked like before.
